Computer Modifications

Many hours of design time are spent to make sure that all components in the Vena system are compatible with the computer, software, and operating system that is supplied. The following is a list of items that may cause problems when running the Vena system. Vena can not support every third party hardware/software addon and it is up the end user to establish proper functionality of the system.

Warning

Any modifications to the computer may void the warranty of the computer, software and data acquisition components.

  • Virus scanning software

    Reason: slows system performance and interferes with tests

  • Screen Savers

    Reason: Interferes with Vena software

  • Modification to Windows Power options

    Reason: Shuts down computer and interrupts test

  • Add USB devices

    Reason: USB devices may cause any number of problems

  • Removal of any Vena installed PCI Boards

    Reason: All PCI boards are required for proper reliable use of Vena system

  • Windows Automatic update must be turned OFF

    Reason: Test interruption is inevitable when updates occur

  • Additional boards added to computer

    Reason: A major issue is Ground Loops. Especially from PCI based DAQ boards.

  • Modification to Firewall settings

    Reason: The Vena system uses over 10 ports and port blocking with interrupt communication.
